As an independent travel writer and photographer my articles and features, the majority of which are illustrated with my own photographs, have appeared in a wide variety of publications. These include consumer, inflight and special interest magazines; regular contributions to major regional newspapers; national newspapers; and online publications. Publications in Hong Kong, Singapore, USA, United Arab Emirates, Kenya and Ireland have also taken features and articles.
In addition to illustrating my own work my photographs have been used in guidebooks and features by other writers.
My writing style is flexible and can be adapted to a particular readership profile. Published articles include destination pieces, hotel and book reviews, business travel, reportage, personal experiences, themed round ups and features on travel related issues such as health.
Recently my work has involved writing or updating guide books for Michelin and Thomas Cook. Destinations include: Madeira, French Atlantic Coast, Austria, Singapore and Birmingham
Travel specialisations include Africa, Middle East, Austria, Slovenia and France. Other subjects regularly covered are walking, caravanning and camping, skiing, canoeing and other soft adventure. These specialisations are not exclusive.
I started travel writing in 1990 with articles on caravanning in France in a second hand caravan towed by an ageing Vauxhall Cavalier. Next came a trip to Holland (the bulbfields and Arnhem), Germany (the Black Forest) and Switzerland and Liechtenstein on the cheap in a two-man tent. Since then I have visited 47 different countries; 404 cities; countless other regions from deserts in Namibia to glaciers in Greenland; taken part in activities as diverse as cooking and kayaking, skiing and swimming with dolphins.
Photography has always been an interest and it was an obvious step to illustrate my own articles; providing a package of pictures and words. My photography also stands alone and has graced the pages of Michelin pocket guides and Thomas Cook Traveller guides as well as the pages of Arena, Real Travel, The Sun and The Express.
